Founded in 2011 by Ronke Ademiluyi, Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) is Europe's largest fashion event promoting and nurturing African and African-inspired design talent.
With a collaborative catwalk, exhibition and business development program, AFWL has led the way in highlighting Africa’s emerging designers and apparel industry and has been at the forefront of bringing awareness of Africa’s burgeoning fashion industry to the international market.
For this season, there will be 5 fashion shows taking place on both days with a focus on sustainability, eco fashion and diversity.
For the first time in AFWL history, there will be an inclusion of a business forum, offering guidance and advice to aspiring designers, as we curate talks and panels from leading manufacturers, retailers and government officials and in all areas relating to fashion. There will be an opportunity for attendees to get up close and personal with their favourite designers with a presentation space offering question forum.
Also included in this year's show is three exciting additional features:
African Souk: A space that promises to showcase new and aspiring African fashion designers and accessory companies housed in an authentic display of some of Africa’s most innovative designs.
Luxury Boutique: A luxury market space, designed to showcase some of the leading and will established brands within African fashion, there are a number of brands travelling from overseas showcasing new collections never before seen in the European market.
African Food Village:This year sees the new inclusion of our food village showcasing more than 4 African catering companies and brands with food from all over North South East and West Africa. With our lovely eating Galleria designed for you to enjoy your food with friends and network with other attendees.
During the event, there will be prizes for the best African-inspired outfit, with pictures being taken by both domestic and international news outlets.
Special guest speakers of the event will include the Mayor of London’s Office and the V&A Museum.
African Fashion Week will be spread over Friday the 9th of August, as well as Saturday the 10th of August. The exhibition will open on 12pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday.
